RIP Pontiac

GM made it official today. Pontiac will cease to exist by the end of 2011. While not what it once was, the performance division of GM, some great name plates sat on Pontiac dealer showroom floors. GTO, Star Chief, Grand Prix, Bonneville, Catalina, Le Mans, Tempest, Firebird, Trans Am and later Fiero, Solstice and even the quirky Aztec were all cars that were distinct and offered something that the other GM makes didn't. The 421 Super Duty Catalina of the early sixties may have been the fastest production car built up to that time and certainly ruled the pro stock classes at the drag strip.
Pontiac was all about speed and handling with it's "Wide Track" footprint in the 60's and creating the first muscle car the GTO.

Pontiac Memories

With the anticipated announcement that General Motors will kill off the storied Pontiac nameplate this blog will be a place where fans of the Chief can come and talk about what is on their minds. Share memories of the Pontiacs you have owned, of the Pontiac dealers you may have worked at, of the boyfriend who showed up on your first date with a brand spankin' new GTO or maybe Granma's 455HO Catalina with the turbo-hydro and 3.93 posi rear that would eat Fords and Mopars for lunch.

Pontiac cars have been a big part of my driving life and i'll share some of the stories of Wide-Track Excitement I got from those cars with you. I hope you will do the same and encourage any other Pontiac fans to stop by and tell their stories.
